Humble Beginnings

I was raised by Tumblr, Myspace, Taking Back Sunday, The Used and 2010s blogs. At heart, I am a forever emo kid. Expressing my emotions with lyrics, cryptic messages and songs. To be finding myself here, writing a blog at 34 years old is not exactly a surprise. Writing is part of my every day life. It’s where I find comfort. How I process things. Writing for the world to see could seem like a huge change but since I’ve already been sharing my creative journey through WOVVVEN on Instagram, a blog feels like the next right step.

I’m certain I’m not the only one who feels like Instagram has changed. I’ve accumulated a beautiful following since 2018, but these days it feels like I am not reaching anyone. It’s taking a lot of work to put things out there on the app and the lack of results makes me want to not get overly personal or deep in my captions. It’s too bad because I’ve been craving a deeper connection with the people from my community, both online and in person. Since I’m not posting as often on Instagram, I feel like writing here is the best way to communicate with you all, in a way that’s more natural and in depth.

I believe my last introduction post on Instagram was over a year ago, possibly two? Ugh. I know! It’s hard to connect and ‘‘sell a brand” when people don’t know you. Anyways, it just feels right to start with an introduction post. Oh and if you made it this far, thank you. I’m figuring it out! It feels good to write. I’m enjoying this already. Here we go!

If we don’t know each other already, my name is Annie-France. I am a textile artist. I am most specifically a weaver of tapestries, but also a spinner of yarns, occasional teacher, casual sewist, a crocheter of things and a kind of frustrated knitter. I am 34 years old, French Canadian and mother of two. I am an Aquarius Sun, Cancer Moon, Gemini Rising. I am a lefty. A day dreamer. I am a collector of notebooks and gems. I am a maximalist AND minimalist (!!!). I am an avid reader, lover of music and movies. I love my coffee black and prefer salty to sweet. I enjoy gardening, my people, organizing things and driving. Fall is my favorite season but Winter is quickly becoming a favorite.

Why am I writing a blog? I have things I want to talk about and things that I want to share in a non-instagramable way. There are pictures I want to post about my process, books I want to talk about, things that I make that are not weaving related. There are thoughts that I want to echo out into the world. I am not the best at communicating. I’ve always felt a tad awkward and thought that I could never really say what I meant. Writing feels better than talking. It feels natural. I’m not saying that everything I write will be cohesive or interesting, although I hope it will be. But if anything, maybe you’ll get a good glimpse of who I am as a human and artist.

Thank you for following along!
